PARADISE UNIFIED SCHOOL
DISTRICT APPLYING FOR 21ST CENTURY COMMUNTIY LEARNING GRANT
Paradise Unified School
District is applying to expand comprehensive after school care to students in Paradise
Unified School District. The District is
also applying for supplemental funding to support summer services and provide transportation
for students in Magalia.
Paradise Unified School District
Superintendent Roger Bylund said "we have a number of students in the district
that would benefit from receiving afterschool services and due to funding
limitations are not able to". Josh
Campos Paradise Director for Boys & Girls Club said, "This funding will
allow us to reach out to our High school population." "We are excited about extending services to
the Ridgeview students, where our focus will be leadership development, job
preparation, mentoring and service learning. "
The schools the district
is looking to extend services to include:
Paradise Elementary, Ponderosa Elementary and Ridgeview High School. Afterschool program services are currently provided
directly after school at Paradise Elementary, Ponderosa Elementary, Paradise
Intermediate, Pine Ridge Elementary, and at the Boys & Girls Club Paradise
Teen Center. The Boys & Girls Club program
currently serves between 300 to 400 students each day and only costs enrollees
$10 annually. If the district is awarded
the grant it would provide additional services to nearly 200 more Paradise
youth a year.
